Robert Cray is an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for blending traditional blues with soul, R&B, and rock influences. Born in Columbus, Georgia, in 1953, Cray emerged as one of the leading figures in the blues revival of the 1980s. His breakthrough album, Strong Persuader (1986), brought blues to a wider mainstream audience and featured the hit “Smoking Gun.” Known for his smooth, expressive vocals, precise guitar playing, and strong songwriting, Cray has won five Grammy Awards and has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. His career has spanned more than five decades, during which he has performed and recorded with artists including Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, and B.B. King.
